About the Project

The project is a proposed 45 megawatt run-of-river hydroelectric project located on northeastern Vancouver Island in the Regional District of Mount Waddington, approximately 50 km southeast of Port Hardy and 15 km east of the Town of Port McNeill.

The project, currently in the conceptual planning stage, will involve the partial diversion of flows from the lower Kokish River. Water will be drawn into a buried pipeline and conveyed to a powerhouse where it will be used to run turbines attached to generators that, in turn, will produce electricity.

In March 2010, the project was selected for a 40-year Electricity Purchase Agreement as a result of the BC Hydro 2008 Call for Clean Power, seeking new, renewable and cost-effective energy projects.
