Who is Brookfield Renewable Power?

Brookfield Renewable Power, wholly-owned by Brookfield Asset Management Inc., has developed and successfully operated hydroelectric power facilities in North America and Brazil for over 100 years. As a developer, owner and operator of reliable hydroelectric power and wind power generating facilities, we produce primarily renewable and pollution-free energy. Our facilities work in harmony with nature.

Brookfield Renewable Power:

  • Operates over 160 power generating facilities
  • Generates over 4,000 megawatts of installed capacity
  • Produces 95% of its power from renewable energy
  • Owns 5 hydroelectric generating stations in BC comprising 134 MW of capacity

Who is the ‘Namgis First Nation?

The ‘Namgis First Nation consists of more than 1,700 members, living primarily in Alert Bay on Cormorant Island, BC. ‘Namgis First Nation traditional territory is located on northern Vancouver Island and the adjacent islands, centered in the Nimpkish Valley and associated watersheds.

The ‘Namgis First Nation:

  • Manages an annual budget of $12M and administers health, social and community services to its members
  • Is involved in several joint venture partnerships in the areas of community service delivery, resource extraction and processing, ecological restoration and cultural eco-tourism. Most recently, they partnered with Polaris Minerals Corporation to build and operate the Orca Sand and Gravel Project, located just west of Port McNeill.

All ‘Namgis ventures are governed by principles of respect for culture, land and aquatic resources, and sound management to ensure sustainable prosperity for all members of the First Nation.
